Procrastination

What do you do to avoid writing? I have cleaned the fridge, got the bills all up to date, and the house doesn’t look too bad. All ten of my scrabulous games on facebook are waiting for someone else to make a move. I guess this means I must write.

The novel I’m working on is set in the 1500s in what is now Ukraine but was Poland-Lithuania. I did TONS of research (that’s another way to avoid writing). This week, I finally began writing in earnest. Sum total of the week? A few hundred words.

Maybe someone’s made a move in scrabble ….

  1. Oh, I’m a master at this. Albeit, avoiding writing was somewhat self imposed with the girls at home with me full-time over the summer.

But! Tomorrow is the first day of our regularly scheduled programming school-wise, so time to buckle down. Except I have my walking group first thing, lunch with a friend, then there’s coffee with Helaine on Wednesday morning…

      1. The butt glue is a bit tacky. I’m feeling very loopy and unfocused these days.

I’ve almost finished an article due on Monday, just sold three articles to an overseas ed publisher and am working on converting my latest MS to first person. (I wish I would have figured that out 30,000 words ago.)

Finished my hockey poem for the Coteau call for submissions for their 2008 anthology and submitted Acadian Star and a short story to a few contests.

I guess it’s not so bad, but I’m battling an earache at the mo’ so I’ve been dragging the past few days.

Great news on your progress! It’s always hard to know where to begin but so exciting to start a new project.

  2. Wow, you’re in Facebook?? Even I’m not that bad! 😉

Just kidding … I’m worse! My house isn’t as clean as yours, altho the week I got back from book camp I defrosted both the freezer and the drinks fridge. I was quite proud of myself but didn’t deserve to be, as they were both so in need of defrosting it was getting hard to close the door!

Pretty bad when you procrastinate on your procrastination techniques, eh?

Anyway, glad to know that even a prolific dynamo like you goes through phases like this. It should (altho not sure if it will) make me feel less guilty for being such an unproductive slug!

    Cheers!

  3. Hi Marsha. I came across the link to your lj on a facebook group — that was a while ago, and I meant to friend you over here on lj. Finally just did. And I guess it’s obvious by this point that I use lj and facebook to procrastinate….

    1. Hi Shari,
Facebook and LJ are wonderful for procrastination, aren’t they? Well, I have been writing fairly steadily since I posted that journal entry on September 8th. I’ve got about 9 pages — single spaced — but only 3 that I’m entirely happy with.
