I had a chance to visit virtually with four schools and lots of students this past week. I love speaking about Tuyet’s early life, the challenges she faced and how she overcame them. Tuyet, you are my hero! Here are some class pics — faces hidden behind books! Thank you, educators and students from Evans Elementary, Fishkill Plains, Sheafe Road and Kinry Road!
I’m delighted that Sky of Bombs, Sky of Stars is a selected book for Poughkeepsie’s 2021 Big Read, coordinated by the Poughkeepsie Public Library District. I’m looking forward to connecting with lots of students in the upcoming weeks. And take a look at this beautifully constructed diorama:
It was wonderful to speak with schools in Georgia and Arkansas this week, facilitated by Scholastic Book Fairs. Such great questions! I even got to explain how to use a library’s vast database of online resources as a research tool during a lockdown! Ha!
Honoured to be included among these amazing women of Ukrainian Canadian heritage.
I was thrilled to have the Wall Street Journal review Traitors Among Us, and was particularly thrilled that they called it nail-biting! Here’s the review.
It was awesome to chat with Lauren Tarshis about writing historicals for kids, about what makes a person a reader, and how Charles Dickens influenced both of us. Thank you, Lauren, for turning so many young people into passionate readers and explorers of history!
