Visiting the Scholastic warehouse in Cincinnati
It’s so neat to see the inner workings of a giant enterprise like Scholastic Book Fairs and so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to walk through the warehouse and also meet a lot of the people who get great books into the hands of kids. The Cinci warehouse is massive!

Ever have one of those perfect author visits? My time at MTCE was like that. So many excited and engaged readers and such a warm reception. As the students were congregating in the auditorium, they were so quiet and respectful you could have hear a pin drop. After the talk, students gathered around and asked so many questions and had so many awesome comments. And then I got a group hug. A wonderful afternoon.

Touring Cincinnati and area — day one
My last tour of 2019 is now complete and it was lots of fun and at times a little too much excitement. My flight out of Toronto was on December 1, right in the midst of a giant ice storm. Thankfully, my flight wasn’t canceled (many were) but it was delayed. I can’t complain — it’s not like airlines control the weather — but I didn’t get into my hotel room until 3 am and then was up at 6 am, for a 7:45 am pick-up with Brenda Oler of Scholastic Book Fairs to travel to the first school, Bell Creek Intermediate. I fortified myself with a weak cup of hotel coffee and was on my way!
This Bell Creek student kindly held the microphone while I read an excerpt from Don’t Tell the Nazis. Avid readers! Thanks, Kim Hanson! What a wonderful welcome!
