Any ideas on where I might find a Victorian costume?
The Victoria BC Children’s Literature Roundtable is celebrating its 25th anniversary on June 4th with a Victorian tea and I have been invited. The catch is that participants are supposed to come in Victorian costume.
Help.
Try a theatrical costumier, Marsha. I’m sure there are more, but this is one I’ve heard of in Toronto: Malabar
The other option, more expensive and more time consuming, is to find a group of historical renactors who specialize in that period and see if they have someone who makes and sells costumes of that period.
Gillian,
Have I told you lately that you’re brilliant? Malabar looks perfect. I don’t want to buy and they have extensive rentals.
Thank you!!!!!!!!
It might be a little difficult to pack!
Very true, but I don’t have much choice about that. Real Victorians never had to worry about Air Canada’s luggage restrictions.
That’s wonderful, Marsha! Try ebay.ca. I noticed there’s a lot of costumes you can order on there. I know there’s a place here in London that rents costumes too. Maybe there’s somewhere near Brantford that rents as well. 🙂
Hi Maggie,
Thanks for the suggestions. I haven’t been able to find anyplace closer than Toronto that rents costumes. I don’t want to buy because I’ll only be using it the one time. Great suggestion about ebay though. I have found some darned nifty things from there in the past.
Hi Marsha,
Snicker. Snicker. You must post pictures.
My only guess is to rent, but ugh. All the way into Toronto? Online might be your best bet.

Hi Rose,
As it turns out, I have extricated myself from this event. My luggage will be much lighter. As will my stress levels.
Hi Marsha,
Ah-ha! Yes, the luggage will be _much_ lighter!

Marsha,
You’re still coming out for the other events, right?

Hi Rose,
Yes, I’ll be arriving in Vancouver on the Friday afternoon and flying out on the Saturday evening.
